Why has my foiling file upload failed?

When uploading a file for advanced foiling, Bookvault checks your artwork to make sure it is suitable for production.

Your foiling file should clearly show which areas of your book cover you want to be foiled. These areas must be supplied in solid black, with the remaining areas in white.

How should my foiling file be prepared?

Your advanced foiling artwork should contain:

• Black – areas where you want the foil to be applied
• White – areas where no foil should be applied
• No grey, colours or pixelated edges

It’s important that foiling elements are solid black rather than grey, as grey or partially coloured pixels can cause problems during production.

What do the file validation errors mean?

If your foiling file is correct, Bookvault's file validation will confirm that no issues have been detected.

 If the system detects pixelation or grey areas, it will highlight the issue and provide X and Y coordinates to help you locate the affected area within your artwork. 

 If your artwork contains colours other than black or white, the file validation will also flag this as an error. 

If your advanced foiling file upload fails, check your artwork carefully for grey pixels, coloured elements or pixelated areas before exporting your file again and re-uploading it.

This helps ensure your book cover foiling artwork is print-ready and can be produced as intended.
