What Is the Difference Between Variant Type and Variant Name in Bookvault?

When setting up book variants for a connected online store, you may see the fields Variant Type and Variant Name.

These fields describe different parts of the product option.

What is Variant Type?

Variant Type is the category or group the option belongs to.

For example:

• Format
• Binding
• Edition

What is Variant Name?

Variant Name is the specific option within that category.

For example:

• Paperback
• Hardback
• Special Edition

Example

If you're selling both paperback and hardback versions of your book, you could use:

Variant Type: Binding
Variant Name: Paperback

and:

Variant Type: Binding
Variant Name: Hardback

This tells your connected store that Binding is the type of choice being offered, while Paperback and Hardback are the individual options available to the customer.

What should I enter?

Choose a Variant Type that clearly describes what is changing between the versions of your book, then use the Variant Name to identify each individual option.
