What Are Duplex Covers?
Learn what duplex covers are, which Bookvault binding options support double-sided cover printing, how to supply your files and whether there is an additional cost.
A duplex cover is a cover that is printed on both sides, allowing you to include artwork or content on both the outside and inside of your book cover.
Which Bookvault bindings support duplex covers?
Duplex cover printing is currently available from our Bookvault UK facility for:
- Paperback
- Saddle-stitched
- Spiral bound
- Wire-bound
At present, duplex covers are only available through Bookvault UK production. If an order is sent to Bookvault US, the cover will be produced single-sided.
Is there an extra charge for a duplex cover?
Duplex cover printing can be produced at no additional cost for the supported binding options.
Case Bound books are different. For these, you would need to use the bespoke Printed End Papers option instead.
How do I supply a duplex cover file?
Your duplex cover should be supplied as one PDF containing two pages.
For example, for a paperback:
Page 1: Outside cover
Page 2: Inside cover
Both pages should be contained within the same PDF file uploaded to Bookvault.
Important: leave space around the inside spine
You must leave an allowance in the middle of the inside cover around the spine.
This should usually be 10mm wider than the spine width.
Artwork within this area can affect the adhesion of the glue and could result in the cover coming away from the text block.
