Can I Sell My Book With Bookvault Before It’s Published?

Find out where you can sell an unpublished book with Bookvault, which sales channels require a publication date, and what options are available before your book officially launches.

If your book has not yet been published, you can still use Bookvault to print and sell it through certain sales channels.

However, wider retail distribution works differently. Retailers such as Amazon and other book trade partners generally require your title to be published before it can be listed for sale.

Can I sell an unpublished book through The Great British Bookshop?

Yes.

Your book can still be made available through The Great British Bookshop before it is published.

This gives you a way to sell your book directly while you are waiting for its official publication date.

Can I sell an unpublished book through my own website?

Yes.

You can also sell the book through your own website using one of Bookvault’s supported ecommerce integrations.

Bookvault can then print and fulfil those orders for you.

What about Amazon?

Amazon may work differently from other retailers.

For new Amazon listings, the book may need to have an existing Amazon product page before Bookvault can connect its distribution offer.

If your title does not already have an Amazon listing, you may need to create the book through Amazon KDP first.

This means you should not rely on Bookvault distribution alone to create a new Amazon listing ahead of publication.

 

What about other retailers?

Retailers supplied through Bookvault’s wider distribution network generally require the title to be published before it can be listed for sale.

If your publication date is still in the future, you may therefore need to wait before those listings can go live.

Can I still print copies before publication?

Yes.

Your publication status does not stop you from ordering printed copies through Bookvault.

You can use this time to:

  • order proof copies
  • prepare launch stock
  • sell directly through your own store
  • make the title available through The Great British Bookshop

What happens once my publication date arrives?

Once your title is published and your distribution details are complete, Bookvault can send the relevant feeds to supported retailers and distribution partners.

Retailer listings can still take time to appear after submission, so your book may not become visible everywhere immediately.
