How Does Bookvault Work With Gardners?
Learn how Bookvault works with Gardners, why your book may appear as Not Available, how Gardners listings and cover images work, and what can help your title become listed or stocked.
Does Bookvault work directly with Gardners?
Bookvault does not have a direct working relationship with Gardners.
Gardners uses industry book data and distribution information to identify where a title can be ordered from.
If your title is correctly published and registered with Nielsen, with Bookvault listed as the distributor where required, Gardners should have a route to order the book from Bookvault.
However, Bookvault cannot guarantee that Gardners will list or stock your title on its own platform.
What if I registered my own ISBN?
If you purchased and registered the ISBN yourself, make sure:
- the ISBN has been published and registered with Nielsen
- Bookvault is listed as the distributor
- your Bookvault distribution setup has been completed under Manage Distribution
- your Bookvault metadata matches the information registered with Nielsen
These details help retailers and wholesalers identify Bookvault as the supply route for your title.
What if Bookvault registered my ISBN?
If the ISBN was supplied and registered as part of a Bookvault Publishing project, the relevant distributor information is handled as part of that publishing process.
You should still make sure your title is correctly set up for distribution within your Bookvault account.
Why does my book show as “Not Available” on Gardners?
A status shown on Gardners’ system does not necessarily mean that the title cannot be ordered through the trade.
Gardners controls how titles are categorised and displayed within its own systems.
Bookvault cannot guarantee that a title will be:
- shown as available on Gardners’ own website
- physically stocked by Gardners
- added to a particular Gardners catalogue or stock category
The important thing is that your ISBN and distributor information are correctly registered.
Will Gardners stock my book?
Bookvault cannot guarantee that Gardners will physically stock your title.
Gardners makes its own decisions about which books it stocks and how titles are represented in its catalogue.
A title being available to order through the trade is different from Gardners choosing to hold physical copies in its warehouse.
Why isn't my cover showing on Gardners?
Gardners controls the information and imagery displayed on its own systems.
Make sure your cover and title metadata have been correctly supplied through the appropriate registration and distribution channels, but Bookvault cannot guarantee how or whether Gardners displays that information.
Can Waterstones order my book through Gardners?
Potentially, yes.
Waterstones sources books through Gardners.
If your title is correctly registered and Bookvault is identified as the distributor, Gardners should have a route to order the book from Bookvault. Waterstones can then order through Gardners.
