EUDR Update: What Does It Mean for Books and Bookvault Customers?

Since Bookvault's previous EUDR updates, the EU Parliament has passed amendments to the legislation that both delay implementation and remove books and other products within commodity code 49xxx from the scope of EUDR.

On 18 December, the EU Council ratified that vote, meaning the amendments has entered into force.

Are books still covered by EUDR?

Books, journals and other products such as calendars that fall within commodity code 49xxxx will no longer be subject to EUDR requirements.

This means these products can continue to be supplied into the EU as they are now.

Which products will still be affected by EUDR?

Certain products fall within commodity code 48xxx and will therefore remain subject to EUDR.

These include products such as:

• diaries, except heavily illustrated diaries
• notebooks
• other products that fall within commodity code 48xxx

For these products, the delayed implementation date is 30 December 2026.

They will still need to demonstrate that they are deforestation free.

Bookvault expects to be able to meet these requirements when the legislation comes into effect.

Will Bookvault be able to comply with EUDR?

Bookvault expects to be able to comply with the legislation in whatever form it takes when it comes into effect.

Bookvault remains in close contact with its suppliers and expects to be able to provide Due Diligence Statements for books where required, allowing them to clear customs and enabling publishers to use those details in their feeds as necessary.
