How to Download and Use Bookvault Templates

Learn how to download Bookvault sizing templates for your cover, interior and dust jacket, and understand the measurements shown on your cover template.

Bookvault can generate sizing templates based on your chosen book specifications to help you prepare your files correctly for upload.

You can download templates in three ways:

  • using the Bookvault Quote Tool
  • from an existing title in your Bookvault account
  • through a Publishing Project

How do I download templates from the Bookvault Quote Tool?

If you haven’t added your title to Bookvault yet, you can generate templates using the Bookvault Quote Tool.

Open the Bookvault Quote Tool

Enter your book specifications and continue to the summary page. From there, you can download the templates available for your chosen specification.

Depending on the book setup, this may include:

  • Dust Jacket template
  • Cover template
  • Interior template

How do I download templates for an existing title?

If your title has already been added to Bookvault:

  1. Go to View Your Titles.
  2. Find the title you want to work on.
  3. Select Files → Sizing Templates.
  4. Bookvault will generate the appropriate templates based on that title’s specifications.

How do I download templates for a Publishing Project?

Go to your Publishing Projects dashboard and select Upload Now.

From the file management page:

  1. Select Sizing Templates.
  2. Choose the template you need.
  3. Select Download.

How do I read a Bookvault cover template?

Your cover template is generated from your selected:

  • book size
  • binding
  • page count

The template includes several important measurements.

Bleed area

This shows where your artwork should extend beyond the final trim.

Safe area

Keep important text and design elements within this area to help prevent them from sitting too close to the trim.

Spine

The template provides the correct spine width for your chosen book specification.

Final document size

This gives you the dimensions required when setting up your complete cover file.

You can create a document at the correct size in your preferred design software and place the Bookvault template over your artwork as a guide while designing.

Following the template helps ensure your print-ready cover is correctly sized for the specifications you selected.
