Can I Edit My ISBN Once I Have Added a Title?

Find out how to request an ISBN change for an existing Bookvault title, when an ISBN can be updated, and when it may be too late to make a change.

Once you've added a title to Bookvault, you can't edit the ISBN yourself through the Bookvault portal.

If you need to change an ISBN, please raise a support ticket or contact our team at customers@bookvault.app.

When contacting us, please provide:

  • The current ISBN on your title
  • The new ISBN you'd like it changed to

Our team can then look into making the change for you.

Can I change an incorrect ISBN?

Yes, in many cases.

If you entered the wrong ISBN when adding your title, contact Bookvault support with:

  • the current ISBN
  • the new ISBN you want to use

ISBN changes are generally possible provided the title has not already progressed through distribution setup.

Can I replace a Bookvault dummy ISBN with my own ISBN?

Yes. If you originally used a Bookvault dummy ISBN and now want to replace it with your own ISBN, contact us and we can look into changing it for you.

Can I change from a dummy ISBN to a Bookvault ISBN?

If you originally created your title using a dummy ISBN and now want a real ISBN from Bookvault, you'll need to add a new title and request it as a Bookvault Publishing Project.

What if I have a live order for the title?

An ISBN cannot be changed while there is a live order against the title.

If the order can still be cancelled, cancel it first. Once the cancellation has completed, Bookvault can then check whether the ISBN can be updated.

Any payment from the cancelled order will be credited back to your Bookvault account.

When can't my ISBN be changed?

An ISBN change may no longer be possible once distribution data has already been submitted for the title.

This can include situations where the book has already been supplied to retailers or has existing distribution activity.

If you are unsure whether your title has reached this stage, contact Bookvault support and provide the current and replacement ISBNs so the title can be checked.
