Can this list change?

Yes. As Bookvault's US business grows, it may reach economic nexus thresholds in additional states.

When this happens, this article will be updated to reflect the states where Bookvault is required to collect tax.

Which state determines the tax on my order?

The relevant location is the delivery destination of the books.

If you're ordering books to your own address, the tax requirements for that destination apply.

If you're using Bookvault to dropship books directly to a customer in another state, the customer's delivery destination determines the applicable tax.

What if I regularly dropship books to different states?

If you regularly dropship books to customers across multiple states and qualify for tax exemptions, you may want to use a multistate tax form.

The current options referenced by Bookvault are:

  • SST — Streamlined Sales Tax
  • MTC — Multistate Tax Commission

These can be used to cover multiple states rather than handling every state individually.
