How Does Payment Work When I Sell Through My Own Website?
Learn how payments work when you connect your ecommerce store to Bookvault, including customer payments, production and shipping charges, and how Bookvault charges your account.
When you connect your ecommerce store to Bookvault, your customer pays you directly through your website. Bookvault doesn't receive the customer's payment from your store.
Once the order has been successfully placed, it is automatically transmitted to Bookvault for fulfilment.
How does my customer pay for their order?
Your customer completes their purchase directly through your website using the payment provider you've set up on your store.
They pay you for:
- The price you've set for the book
- The shipping cost displayed on your store
For shipping, you can either set up your own shipping rates or use Bookvault's pre-populated shipping rates.
The money from the sale goes directly to you rather than Bookvault.
What happens when an order is placed?
Once your customer's payment has been successfully processed, the order details are sent to Bookvault.
Bookvault then charges you for the production cost of the book and the applicable shipping cost before the order is processed for production and fulfilment.
How does Bookvault charge me?
There are two main ways to pay for orders received from your connected store.
1. Use funds in your Bookvault account
You can add funds to your account through the Payments page in Bookvault.
If you have sufficient funds available, the cost of your order will be taken from your balance and the order can automatically proceed to production.
2. Use a saved payment card
You can add a payment card through the Payments page of your Bookvault account.
Once a saved payment method is linked, orders received from your connected store can be automatically charged and processed into production.
What happens if I don't have enough funds?
If there aren't enough funds in your Bookvault account and you don't have a payment card linked, the order will still appear in Bookvault but will be saved as a Draft Order.
You can then either:
- Select Pay Now to pay for the order manually
- Add funds to your Bookvault account and use those funds to pay for the order
Keeping sufficient funds in your account or adding a saved payment card helps prevent delays in processing orders from your connected store.
