DUE TO THE DELICATE NATURE OF FOILING, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND ORDERING A PROOF BEFORE A FULL PRODUCTION RUN TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE HAPPY!
You need two files for this, your artwork with any text/designs you wish to appear in foil omitted, the second a plain white background, with the artwork you wish to be foiled supplied in black.
These two files must be supplied with the same dimensions. If not, there could be issues with alignment which will impact the quality of the final product.
PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE GRADIENTS WITHIN THE FOILING ARTWORK. ANY GRADIENTS WILL RESULT IN POOR FOILING RESULTS!
THERE CAN BE SOME MOVEMENT BETWEEN THE PRINTED ARTWORK AND THE FOILING LAYER. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND HAVING THE SAME CONTENT (SUCH AS A TITLE) ON BOTH THE PRINTED ARTWORK AND FOILING!
FOILING PDF CHECKLIST
- Does your foiling artwork obstruct your cover art when combined?
- When you zoom in, is there any aliasing / pixelation / distortion to text or designs?
- Is your foiling PDF black and white like the below example?
- Have you added foiled text over printed text? This most probably won't work!
