Does Bookvault Have a Returns Policy for Retailers?

Bookvault retail orders are produced using print-on-demand, so retailers cannot normally return unsold copies to Bookvault.

This differs from traditional wholesale arrangements where retailers may order stock in advance and return unsold books later.

Can retailers return unsold Bookvault books?

No.

Retail orders supplied through Bookvault are printed specifically to fulfil an order, so unsold stock is not accepted back as a standard retailer return.

Why doesn’t Bookvault accept retailer returns?

Bookvault uses a print-on-demand model.

That means books are produced when an order is received rather than printed and held in large quantities for retailers.

Because each copy is manufactured to fulfil a specific order, Bookvault does not operate a traditional returns model for unsold retailer stock.

What happens if a retailer receives a damaged book?

Damage in transit is handled separately from standard retailer returns.

If a book arrives physically damaged, Bookvault can arrange a replacement rather than treating it as a normal return of unsold stock.

The order details will be needed so the issue can be checked and the replacement processed.

What if an order is lost in transit?

If a shipment appears to have been lost in transit, Bookvault can investigate the delivery and arrange a replacement where appropriate.

This is separate from the retailer returns policy and does not mean that unsold books can be returned to Bookvault.

Does this affect whether bookshops will order my book?

Potentially.

Some retailers prefer titles that are supplied on a returnable basis, while others are comfortable ordering print-on-demand titles.

Bookvault cannot guarantee that every retailer will stock or order a title, even when it is available through distribution.
